Usage :
Gambier is also used as masticatory, together with betel leaves, areca nut and lime. It is also being used in India as a substitute of Katha. Medicinally, it is employed as a powerful astringent to ulcers, boils and skin eruptions.
Gambier extract is also used as tanning agent to obtained very soft leather, particularly in the re-tanning of calf-leather. However, Gambier is used for the re-tanning of chrome-tanned glove leather, with a remarkable fullness of the leather as well as softness and elasticity.
Qualities
Butch Grade, well dried with Maximum moisture 13-14%, Ash content maximum 5% and Catechin content 60%. Other qualities available in small quantities are Dollar (Coin) and Lumpang quality which command a premium in the market.
